5 Things To Know Before You Get Hair Extensions!

Hair Extensions

Can you wear your hair up with Hair Extensions ?

This does depend on your natural hair length and placement of your Hair Extensions. If you have naturally short hair (above shoulders) then you wouldn’t usually be able to put it up in a high pony without shorter pieces of hair falling out, however you can tie it back in a low pony and we recommend using bobby pins or clips to hold those shorter pieces of hair that may fall out in place. If your hair is naturally long and past shoulder length than you would be able to wear your hair up in a high pony, We recommend not to tie hair up for at least 2-3 days until the beads/stitching settle in your hair, this can cause tension so you do have to be careful, wearing it tied back low is most suited or those first few days. We always recommend to wear hair up or tied back when exercising, sleeping and swimming.

Can you colour Hair Extensions?

The answer is YES! However Hair Extensions should not be lightened or bleached as they already go through a process and this would significantly reduce their life span and quality. The Extensions can be coloured cooler, warmer or darker however Hair Extensions take colour very differently to our natural hair because of the manufacturing process they go through and it is only recommended that they are coloured always by a Experienced professional stylist with a Semi Permanent Hair Colour.

Can you use Protein on your Hair Extensions?

Keratin proteins are not recommended for your Hair Extensions as it is an oil based protein that is found naturally in our hair that is designed to strengthen the hair and can harden over time due to their nature and processing Eg: Yes Hair Extensions are a natural product but they do not contain natural oils from our scalp like our natural hair does therefore over time the keratin can build up on the hair and cause the reverse and can become very dry and brittle due to the product not being able to be broken down. Moisture is key when you have Hair Extensions and you should always use Hair Extension safe products recommended to you by your stylist!

Are Weft Hair Extensions Damaging?

Weft Hair Extensions are sewn into the hair on a track which can be either braided or created with silicone lined micro beads with no use of glue or adhesives like those of bonds or tapes. They are one of the least damaging methods on the market and suitable for almost all hair types. All Hair Extensions could possibly cause damage if they are applied incorrectly or by someone who is not qualified with little experience and one of the most important steps is making sure you look after them at home correctly.
